Disney adds to Maleficent 2, Jungle Cruise casts

Newcomer Harris Dickinson, next in the YA adaptation “The Darkest Minds”, has joined the cast of Disney’s “Maleficent” sequel.

Dickinson will be playing the prince in the new film, replacing Brenton Thwaites, who played the role in the 2014 original.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Skrein were also recently added to the cast of the Joachim Ronning directed picture.

Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton are on screenplay duties.

Meantime, Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Disney’s “Jungle Cruise”.

The actor reunites with “San Andreas” co-star Dwayne Johnson on the film, an adventure movie that takes inspiration from its theme park ride. Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons, Jack Whitehall and Edgar Ramirez are also on the billing block.

Jaume Collet-Serra directs the movie, which is set in the early 20th century and takes place in the Amazon jungle.

Johnson will play a boat captain who takes his sister (Blunt) and her brother (Whitehall) on a mission to find a tree believed to possess healing powers. Wild animals and a competing German expedition figure into the proceedings. Giamatti will play a crusty harbormaster.
