Drew Goddard may direct next Spider-Man

Drew Goddard is Sony’s pick to helm the next solo “Spider-Man” movie, according to Comic Book Movie.

The “Cabin in the Woods” helmer would write and direct the new movie, which would serve as somewhat of a restart for the series.

As previously rumoured, Spider-Man would first appear in Disney’s “Captain America : Civil War” and “Avengers : Infinity War” as part of a deal between Sony, Marvel and Disney. These details, unearthed in those recently leaked Sony emails, suggest the studio is willing to do whatever it takes to make the once very-profitable “Spider-Man” franchise a success again (this year year’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” only pocketed $65 million before expenses).

Goddard is already in business with Sony and the “Spider-Man” movie universe, having been developing spin-off “The Sinister Six” with the hacked shingle.

The Goddard-helmed “Spider-Man” movie, reportedly due 2017, would assumingly feature a new actor behind the cherry mask – someone first introduced in the “Captain America” and “Avengers” pics.
