Clint Eastwood is circling Fox/Disney project “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” as his next directorial effort.
The “Mule” star had been circling the project, the true story of a man wrongly accused a terrorist, a few years back before moving on to direct “Sully” instead.
Jewell reported on the knapsack bomb at the 1996 Summer Games and helped clear bystanders — only to find himself vilified and suspected of being involved in the terrorism plot. Jewell was cleared as a suspect three months later and died in 2007 of a heart attack at the age of 44.
Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio had originally agreed to star in the film – they’re no longer onboard, but will remain on as producers.
