Caffeinated Clint
There’s been a few big news stories doing the intranet rounds at eOne in recent times. First, Alex Hamilton, Entertainment One’s very successful London-based president of international, exited the company in March, and later, the 49-year-old company snagged almost half of The Mark Gordon Company.
Now, there’s a change of guard downunder on the distribution front – but one that will likely be music to the ears of filmmakers whose films are housed with the Canadian mass media and entertainment company.
Word hit this week that Universal Pictures International will now handle eOne’s title’s internationally, managing titles from April – kicking off with Tom Harper’s “Wild Rose” and Guillermo Del Toro’s “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”. Some very cool stuff on the eOne schedule so a win for anyone inheriting those spools.
In addition to releasing eOne’s in-house product, which will also include “Booksmart”, “Where’d You Go, Bernadette?”, and “A Dog’s Journey”, Universal will also be handling films acquired by including the Renee Zellweger-starrer “Judy” and “Top Ending Wedding” – a local Wayne Blair directed film starring Kerry Fox.
eOne have teamed with Universal on several projects in the past, including Peter Farrelly awards darling “Green Book”, and those films have largely done very, very well, so that’s likely stemmed the decision from chief Darren Throop to have Universal handle everything from hereon out. Those marketing budgets at Uni won’t hurt either.
