Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”, “True Blood”) will play Madonna in Roku’s currently filming biopic on Grammy award winning musician Weird Al Yankovic.
Wood stars alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the film, which will likely feature Weird Al (Radcliffe) having to get permission from the pop singer to do his well-known spoof version of her “Like a Virgin”, “Like a Surgeon”.
Meantime, Toby Huss (“Halt and Catch Fire”) and Julianne Nicholson (“Mare of Easttown”) have been cast as Yankovic’s parents Nick and Mary, with former “The Office” star Rainn Wilson set to play radio host Dr. Demento.
“Weird : The Al Yankovic” story is set to air later this year on the Roku Channel.
Meantime, actress Florence Pugh (“Black Widow”) is one of several actresses said to be on the short-list to play the material girl in her upcoming biopic.
In addition to Pugh, casting director Carmen Cuba has reportedly also auditioned Julia Garner, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young and Emma Laird.
Madonna will be directing the project, to be distributed and produced by Universal.
