Exclusive : The A-lister that could’ve had Batman after Affleck

Bit of an interesting tidbit on Matt Reeves’ long-gestating film formerly known as ‘The Batman’.

Now, you only have to scrawl around the w’s to see that news scribes are more engrossed in who of the younger generation might get the main part, and rightly so, considering it’s been revealed that director Reeves wants someone younger than 35 to be his Bruce Wayne. But for a brief period of time there, shortly after Warner Bros and Ben Affleck parted ways on the film, the studio were fleetingly looking at casting someone of a similar age to Affleck in the title role – and have it be the same Caped Crusader we’ve been watching for the past few years (lot less effort than having to reintroduce another Batman to the screens, so soon after “Batman vs. Superman”, after all.)

And it’ll surprise no one to know who was the studio’s pick to take over for Affleck on the new standalone film.

Bradley Cooper.

Not only a favorite at Warner Bros, thanks to his starring turns in “The Hangover” trilogy, “American Sniper”, “The Mule” and, especially, “A Star is Born”, but also one of the biggest names in film right now.

And yeah, he would’ve probably been fantastic.

Of course, that didn’t get too far (guessing it was something Cooper wouldn’t have been interested in), and the plan was quickly changed so that a new, younger caped crusader would be introduced to the audiences in the film but still, a nice ‘what if?’.

It won’t be Cooper but Warner Bros are said to be still chasing a ‘name’ for the film, so it’ll be interesting to see who ultimately lands the gig.

”The Batman” opens in theaters on June 25, 2021.
