Here’s one to look out for at the Oscars in a couple of years.
Todd Field’s long-gestating “The Creed of Violence” is back on – some five years since the adaptation of Boston Teran’s novel lured names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale to headline.
Moviehole can confirm that the project (which I hear may be looking for a new title) is currently casting and will be before the cameras in Spring 2020- which gives the production time to reignite the interest of the A-listers that were originally set and find their lead (See below).
Set in 1910 during the Mexican Revolution, Teran’s novel tells of an estranged father-son out to stop smugglers. The leads are small-time assassin Rawbone and John Lourdes, a young Bureau of Investigation agent. The two are forced to work together to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground, encountering thieves, smugglers and professional killers. Now, for the role of the younger Lourdes, Field wants to cast a fresh face – a newcomer in the 20-24 age bracket. I’m guessing a name will play Rawbone.
“Hacksaw Ridge” and “Everest” producer Brian Oliver produces through his New Republic Pictures. Oliver launched his new production company at Cannes last year, where it was reported the outfit had a first-look deal with Paramount.
This will be the third feature for Field, who made a name for himself as a filmmaker with the acclaimed 2001 drama “In the Bedroom” and later, “Little Children” (2006). Yep, he’s paused between drinks here.. and then some. If this latest is anything like the earlier two, expect to be clapping those hands hard when it’s end credits roll.
