“Fighting with my family” standout Florence Pugh – playing wrestler Paige in Stephen Merchant’s adorable crowd-pleasing comedy – is rumoured to be up for a lead role in Marvel’s “Black Widow”.
Starring Scarlett Johanssen as original Avenger Natalia Alianovna Romanova, the film has been on the studio’s to-do list for many years – since the character’s on-screen debut in “Iron Man 2”.
According to That Hashtag Show, Pugh is one of several actresses that have met with the studio and “made a strong impression”. Whoever gets the nod will be required on set in June, when filming begins.
Emma Watson (“Harry Potter”), Alice Englert (“Beautiful Creatures”), and Dar Zuzovsky (“Hostages”) are also believed to have met with Marvel about the part, said to be a female 007-type.
Cate Shortland is said to be directing the film.
