A new biopic on “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberg is in the works with Adam Mazer, whose credits include “You Don’t Know Jack” and “Empire State”, penning for Roddenbery Entertainment.

Roddenberry has an interesting history. The fighter pilot-turned cop-turned-writer would survive two plane crashes before selling one of the world’s most successful sci-fi franchises to Paramount. The original series ran from 1966-69 and ultimately spawned sequels, spin-offs, books and various animated series.

“Gene led a remarkable life,” Rod Roddenberry and Roth told Deadline. “He was an incredibly complex, compelling man, whose work changed the face of television, and whose ideas changed the world. It’s time to share Gene’s story with audiences everywhere.”

Roddenberry died in 1991.
