Caffeinated Clint
Much like the original Swedish flick, David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is a magnificent movie that, despite spawning two sequels, could’ve easily been the one and only chapter of the Millennium trilogy.
Though entertaining, Stieg Larsson’s books cum films “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest” weren’t half as good as “Dragon Tattoo”; that original yarn just has a much more captivating, deeper, darker, more compelling story in tow.
And walking out of Fincher’s “Dragon Tattoo” remake last week I couldn’t help but think ‘Would he even bother with the sequels?’.
Seems Yes.
Fincher tells Collider that “Played with Fire” and “Hornet’s Nest” will also get the Yankee redo treatment; he’s already decided to shoot them back-to-back.
Yes, the second two books are very much one story and it doesn’t seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. I don’t think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it’s really one story that’s kind of bifurcated in the middle.
I dunno, I don’t think Rooney Mara would mind so much playing Lisbeth Salander four years from now, especially if the part wins her an Academy Award – which, by golly, it should.
Steve Zaillian, scribe of the “Dragon Tattoo” remake, is also on scripting duties for the sequels. He tells the aforesaid site that he thinks he can get them finished (he hasn’t started work on them yet) in time for the two films to shoot back-to-back.
