Firefly fave joins live-action Aladdin

Disney-staple Alan Tudyk (“Wreck-it Ralph”, “Frozen”) has been tapped to provide the voice of Iago, the wise-cracking parrot sidekick to the villain Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) in Disney’s live-action “Aladdin”.

Tudyk, also known for his roles in such films and TV series as “Firefly”, “Doom Patrol”, “Dollhouse” and “Dodgeball”, inherits the role from Gilbert Gottfried, voiced Iago in the 1992 Disney animated feature film and in two direct-to-video sequels.

Though he didn’t post anything on the casting himself, Gottfried is seemingly not happy that he’s been ousted from the role – retweeting some angry tweets over on Twitter.

The actor joins Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine in the Guy Ritchie-directed film.

“Aladdin”, a new trailer of which just dropped earlier today, opens May 24.
