Daniel Radcliffe’s latest is now lensing in Australia.

Arclight Films, MEP Capital and the South Australian Film Corporation have kicked off filming on “Escape from Pretoria”, based on the lives of political prisoners and freedom fighters Tim Jenkin and Stephen Lete.

The “Harry Potter” star plays Jenkin and Daniel Webber (“The Dirt”) is Lete. Ian Hart, Mark Leonard Winter and Nathan Page have also joined the cast.

Based on an extraordinary true story, ”Escape From Pretoria” follows Jenkin and Lee, two white South African twenty-somethings who were branded ‘terrorists’ and imprisoned in 1978 for their involvement in covert anti-apartheid operations for the ANC (African National Congress).

Incarcerated in Pretoria Maximum Security Prison, Jenkin and Lee – joined by a fellow inmate – decide to send the regime a clear message and escape. After months of meticulous surveillance, breath-taking ingenuity, and in a race against time as the authorities strengthen the prison security defenses, the group craft wooden keys for each of the ten steel doors between them and freedom.

Francis Annan makes his feature film directorial debut from the screenplay he co-penned with LH Adams, based on Tim Jenkin’s autobiography ‘Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison’.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with the brilliant team at the SAFC and MEP Capital, and the producers at BeaglePug and Footprint Films,” Arclight Chairman Gary Hamilton said today. “They are fantastic partners to bring this extraordinary tale to life and we look forward to seeing this incredible film in cinemas around the world very soon.”

South Australia’s Minister for Industry and Skills, Hon. David Pisoni MP said: “South Australia’s increasing ability to attract major international productions to shoot here is testament to our diverse and unique locations and world-class crews and facilities. The Marshall Liberal Government is investing in our local film industry to ensure we are globally competitive.”

”Escape from Pretoria” is produced by Arclight’s Hamilton and Michelle Krumm and BeaglePug’s David Barron, Footprint Films’ Mark Blaney and Jackie Sheppard.

“Footprint Films and BeaglePug are thrilled to be working with the SAFC, Arclight Films and MEP Capital to bring to life one of the most daring and ingenious prison escapes of the twentieth century,” said UK Producers David Barron, Mark Blaney and Jackie Sheppard.

“We’re also very excited to be working with the immensely talented Francis Annan and our outstanding cast on this astonishing true story. Much more than just another prison break thriller, Escape From Pretoria is a story of our time, a story of risking everything in the fight for freedom and equality, against injustice and oppression.”

”Escape From Pretoria” will be post-produced in Melbourne, having received support through Film Victoria’s PDV incentive program. The film is an Australian/UK coproduction between Hamilton Entertainment, BeaglePug, and Footprint Films.

The local media even nabbed some video footage of Radcliffe on the job here.

While we’ll unlikely see Creed belting his glove again, Sylvester Stallone says Rocky Balboa isn’t out.

The actor  made the revelation today at the Cannes film festival, where his long career and latest ‘Rambo’ film are under the Croisette’s spotlight.

While ‘Sly’ hints that his participation in the “Creed” franchise might be two and out, the 72-year-old says a seventh “Rocky” film could be on the cards.

“I have a great idea for Rocky. He finds this fella who’s in the country illegally and it becomes a whole thing. It would be really phenomenal, really different”.

“It’s like a magician,” he continued. “Once you’ve seen how he does the tricks you’re not impressed any more. It’s the same thing with Rocky. You’ve seen everything, so you’re like, ‘How can it be different?’ That would be different. When you take him and throw him out of the country and he’s in another world. It could work.” he said.

Stallone didn’t say whether it’d be Balboa, who we last saw in 2018’s “Creed II”, training the immigrant.

The actor had intended for 2006’s “Rocky Balboa” to be the character’s swansong but returned to the role when the idea for the “Creed” films were presented to him.

Stallone was at Cannes to attend a a 4K restoration screening of his groundbreaking actioner “First Blood” and promote its fourth sequel “Last Blood”, which sees the long-suffering vet going up against cartels in Mexico.

“He goes out there and bad things happen,” Stallone said. “There’s going to be some serious vengeance in this movie. A lot of people are going to get killed.”
