Fox’s X-Men slate includes Silver Surfer origin movie

In a yarn over at THR discussing whether Disney will disrupt Fox’s “X-Men” plans now that they’ll shortly have a say at the table (seems not), the trade states that a solo film featuring the Silver Surfer, being written by comics creator Brian K.Vaughn, and “X-Force”, with Ryan Reynolds reprising Deadpool a third time, are a couple of the next cabs to skid out of the ranks. A “Doctor Doom” movie, based on the “Fantastic Four” villain, is also still on the cards.

As for whether Disney/Marvel Studios might can any of these films – particularly those that aren’t ‘squeaky-clean Disney’-type films – Fox greenlit before their big union?

“We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio,” a Fox insider tells the trade. “There’s been zero slowdown on that front given Disney.”

Meanwhile, Channing Tatum’s long-in-development ”Gambit” is still looking for a director, adds the trade. A new draft of the script is expected in March and it is greenlit, meaning that the studio has budgeted it. In addition, the “X-Men” horror flick “New Mutants” is about to undergo reshoots over the Summer as the long-gestating flick adds a brand new character. The movie is now due Feb. 22, 2019.
