Fresnadillo exits Summit’s Highlander remake starring Ryan Reynolds

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) has departed Summit’s “Highlander” remake, says Deadline.

Fresnadillo and the studio had creative differences, it is said.

The film has been in the works for quite some time, but started to gather momentum when Fresnadillo joined the project (leaving a remake of “The Crow” for it) and Ryan Reynolds agreed to star in the title role.

The script, by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, with the latest draft by Noah Oppenheim, follows the same story as the 1986 original – a Scottish swordman, blessed/cursed with the gift of immortality, must confront the last of his kind.

Summit will be hunting for a new director for “Highlander” next week.
