Something very different for Antoine Fuqua coming down the pipeline.
The action-thriller vet, whose long line of work includes such [Denzel Washington starring] films as “The Magnificent Seven”, “Training Day” and “The Equalizer”, will direct a new feature based on Tennessee William’s “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”.
Variety says Fuqua will produce alongside Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, who backed a 2008 revival of the show that made history with a sold-out 19-week run as the first all-African American production on Broadway. It was also the highest-grossing play during that season.
No word if the film plans to utlize any of the cast from the Debbie Allen-directed play, which included Anika Noni Rose, Terrence Howard, Phylicia Rashad and James Earl Jones. Maybe Denzel will get a call?
The filmmakers say the movie “will combine elements of the play with new storylines and weave them together to bring the production to the big screen.”
