G.I Joe director to helm live-action Lilo & Stitch

Disney

“G.I Joe : Retaliation” helmer Jon M.Chu is in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of Disney classic “Lilo & Stitch” for the studio, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Chu, who doors opened for after the surprise success of his “Crazy Rich Asians” a couple of years ago, will direct a film originally penned by Mike Van Waes. Chu will work with a new scribe on the next draft.

“Aladdin” producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback will produce the film, which is not yet confirmed to be a theatrical release or a Disney+ premiere.

Set in Hawaii, “Lilo & Stitch” tells the tale of a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers and the idea of the bond of a family all figure into the proceedings.
