A [yes, another] reboot of sci-fi classic “Battlestar Galactica” is in the works for NBC’s newly-announced streaming platform Peacock, it was announced today.
In addition, new takes on “Punky Brewster”, “Saved By The Bell” and – possibly – “The Office” are coming to the spin-off.
Sam Esmail (“Mr Robot”) will spearhead the new “Galactica”, launching in 2020, and promises it won’t be a retread of the original Glen Larsen series nor the more recent, critically acclaimed Ronald D.Moore version.
Says the showrunner in a tweet, “BSG fans (he tweeted), this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because … why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!”
Peacock will also be the home for Moore and SyFy’s 2004 version.
The new “Galactica” is said to be a “more modern look at the world as told through the lens of the sci-fi favorite”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“30 Rock’s Tracey Wigfield is writing and executive producing the “Saved” sequel, which The Hollywood Reporter has discovered will also feature Zack Morris – albeit in a surprising new role.
“When California Gov. Zack Morris (the role memorably played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar) gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”
