Caffeinated Clint
Two of tinseltown’s hottest new filmmakers, Josh Trank (“Chronicle”) and Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”) have been snapped up to direct adaptations of video games.
Trank, who is apparently still attached to both a “Fantastic Four” reboot, as well as a “Venom” movie, has for the moment decided to pour his energy into a “Shadow of the Colossus” flick.
The movie, based on the Playstation2 game, has been in the works for about three years. THR says Justin Marks (“Street-Fighter : The Legend of Chun-Li”) had previously written a draft of the script, but that Trank is now starting over.
The game’s story involves a young man named Wander, who, riding his trusty steed Argo, travels a world defeating 16 colossal beings in order to resurrect a girl named Mono.
Meantime, Waugh will direct a flick based on the console classic “Need for Speed”.
This is the street-racing game from EA. Dreamworks are doing the movie.
Deadline says George and John Gatins developed the story with George Gatins writing the script.
I’m betting Oliver Stone is reading this now and is considering abandoning all plans for that ambitious war epic of his, “Pinkville” and instead begging to take the reigns on a “Mrs Pac Man” movie. He knows he wants it. He knows that’s the genre the real meat and potatoes lies in these days. And don’t deny it Olie, we know you’ve always wanted to work with John Ratzenberger, ever since he was pipped at the post by Michael Douglas with the Gordon Gecko role.
