Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel finally going ahead!

The trades reported today that Fede Alvarez, the “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe” director who has become somewhat of a go-to genre-darling at Sony, is in talks to helm the on-again off-again on-again sequel to the saucy, sensational “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”.

The news, first reported by Variety and later confirmed by Deadline, would see Alvarez take on “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”, an adaptation of the fourth in ”Dragon Tattoo” book series by David Lagercrantz.

Scripted by “Eastern Promises” alum Steven Knight, the new film would get underway next eyar, with Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon and Yellow Bird’s Ole Søndberg and Søren Stærmose set to produce.

No word on whether original “Dragon Tattoo” leads Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara would reprise their roles. In this, their characters would team up to enter a world of a ruthless underworld of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives — some willing to kill to protect their secrets.

The first feature was directed by David Fincher who, at one stage, was attached to return for the sequel.
