Guardians of the Galaxy star brought in for Dune reboot

Dave Bautista has been cast alongside Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson for Legendary’s reboot of “Dune”, which is to be directed by Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve is also co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.

Bautista and Villeneuve previously worked together on “Blade Runner 2049”.

“Dune” is based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel, and was adapted into a film in 1984 by “Twin Peaks” creator David Lynch. Set in the distant future, “Dune” follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

Bautista will also be seen in STX film “My Spy” in 2019, as well as “Avengers: End Game,” where he will be reprising his role of “Guardians of the Galaxy” character Drax.
