Game of Thrones fave joins Jason Segel in new Ridley Scott production!

Gwendoline Christie, fresh from a scene-stealing turn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, but more famously known for her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth on “Game of Thrones” has joined the cast of Scott Free and Black Bear Picture’s “The Friend”.

Jason Segel, Dakota Johnson, Casey Affleck, Cherry Jones, Jake Owen, Denee Benton, and Marielle Scott help make up the cast of the film, which will be directed by “Blackfish” helmer Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

The screenplay, based on Matthew Teague’s National Magazine Award-winning article first published in Esquire Magazine, was adapted by Brad Ingelsby. It’s the true story of Nicole (Johnson) and Matthew Teague (Affleck) who, after learning that Nicole has just six months to live, receive the unexpected support of the couple’s best friend (Segel) who decides to move into their family home and put his own life on hold. His impact on everyone is much greater – and more profound – than anyone could have imagined.

The film, recently introduced to buyers by STX International at EFM, kicked off production in Fairhope, Alabama this month.

Ridley Scott is an executive producer with his Scott Free shingle producing alongside Black Bear.
