The wheels have apparently fallen off at Paramount, with the studio dropping out of J.C. Chandor-directed drama “Triple Frontier”.
But the news gets worse for Chandor, the producers and scribe Mark Boal; stars Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum have also exited the project.
Deadline has the news, putting the changes down to creative differences, budget and timelines:
Chandor turned in a rewrite that Tatum and Hardy didn’t love, and they were teetering. Sources said that for Paramount, this project was being done on a tight schedule and for a price, and that once creative differences imperiled that goal and requests were made for more extensive changes — I’ve heard those requests came from Hardy — the studio today declined to move forward. There’s also the added element that the studio has had a changeover at the top, and this one was championed by Brad Grey, who’s not there anymore.
This comes as a pretty big blow, with production planned to kick off next month. No doubt there will be a number of disappointed film buffs out there too, as this project has already been in development for a long time – Katherine Bigelow once planned to direct the movie, while Tom Hanks, Will Smith and Johnny Depp have all previously circled the lead roles. Currently, the film has Mahershala Ali and Adria Arjona still in the cast.
The thriller is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge.
