Despite the success of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” – which launched on HBO Max late last week – Warner Media say they’ve no plans to do sequels to those films. Nor are they interested in doing a lengthier, uncut version of David Ayer’s superhero effort “Suicide Squad” (2016) – which the filmmaker himself suggests could easily be assembled. The studio considers Snyder’s 4-hour “Justice League” a one-off.
Despite its small screen success, Snyder says he doesn’t expect the studio to reverse their decision in doing sequels to the superhero tag-team film.
Speaking to the Minutemen Podcast, he said: “As far as I know, there’s no interest and/or appetite to do more of these movies from Warner Bros. – with me, anyway.”
Over at Total Film. Snyder said his cut is a “primer for another two [Justice League] movies…Not that those movies are ever going to get photographed, I don’t see that happening.”
Further, WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff says they’ve moved on from the series and have other priorities.
“I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC”, the chief tells Variety. “We’re just so happy that he could bring his cut of the ‘Justice League’ to life because that wasn’t in the plan until about a year ago. With that comes the completion of his trilogy. We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now.”
…And yep, that includes an “Ayer Cut” of “Suicide Squad”.
“We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut.”
Had Snyder got to complete his “Justice League” trilogy, the next film would’ve seen Superman would’ve been the big bad.
Speaking to the New York Times, Snyder said of the plot : “It’s the fall of Earth, when Superman succumbs to [the Anti-Life Equation]. And then sending Flash back in time to change one element so that doesn’t happen.”
The filmmaker also touched upon the never-gonna-happen sequel with Vanity Fair.
“Lex tells Darkseid that the key to Superman’s weaknesses is killing Lois Lane,” Snyder said. “For whatever reason, Batman fails. Darkseid comes back and kills Lois. Batman fails, he hesitates. They were in an argument.” Basically, Batman got distracted and failed to protect Lois.
