In the Heat of the Night nabs O.J scribe

A new take on classic film – and later, series – “In the Heat of the Night” is in the works at MGM Television.

Per Deadline, Joe Robert Cole, a writer-producer on awards fave “People v. O.J Simpson”, has been tapped to write the libretto for the character piece.

Though it’s without a network, the revamp was previously set up with Showtime in 2014 with “The Help” director Tate Taylor writing and directing. Taylor remains on as a director and executive producer of the current incarnation.

The 1976 film snared five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Rod Steiger.
