Hey! Today is Top Gun day!

Does that mean we’re about to get drunk and watch “Top Gun” together – from our own homes, safely socially distancing and all – once again!?

Well, it could… but no, “Top Gun” ‘day’* refers to the the day we celebrate Goose’s death.. er, wait, that’s not right. Okay, so it’s the day we cheer for Tom Cruise and his immortal cockpit as it entered the danger zone for the very first time (and no, that’s not a Mimi Rogers gag). ‘Top Gun Day’ was originally created by a fan website to celebrate the week the original film was released globally – all the way back in May 1986!

So, today, get the gang together, pop in the classic and see if you’ve still got the lovin’ feeling for this beauty of a flick!

*They’ve even set up a nifty page over on Zuckerberg’s hub to celebrate Maverick’s big day.

Reads the ‘about us’ section of said page, “Roger. Call the ball…. Top Gun Day is May 13th. What is Top Gun Day? Well it’s like talk like a pirate day, only way cooler because it allows you to quote Top Gun all day long, wear aviator sunglasses (no matter how cheap), pretend you’re a fighter pilot (“it’s time to buzz the fridge”), play volleyball in jeans, and drink Hemlock–wait, wait–I mean ICE water. Participating in Top Gun Day is so easy even Slider can do it..”

And best news of all! There’s a new “Top Gun” movie, “Top Gun : Maverick” coming out next mo…ah, frick, forget about that. (that’s now December. Damn you Bat-soup).

“Top Gun” will be released in a shiny 4K edition in a few weeks – – can’t wait to study that one in detail!
