Invisible Man success paves the way for James Wan’s ‘Frankenstein’

After the bonza box-office on “The Invisible Man”, no surprise that Universal Pictures would want to get another of their classic movie monsters back in front of the lens as quickly as possible.

Interestingly, the next film looks to be a retooled take on “Frankenstein” with James Wan serving as producer. Wan’s frequent collaborator Leigh Whannell directed this past month’s “Invisible Man” redo.

According to THR, the untitled film will be penned by “Supernatural” EP Robbie Thompson. His script “takes its cues from Universal’s classic monster legacy and shines it through a modern prism. With shades of Disturbia, the story will focus on a group of teens who discover that a neighbor is building a monster in his basement. Spoiler: the monster gets loose.”

While this is the only classic movie monster movie currently said to be in development, don’t be surprised to learn there’s more ideas bubbling away to get those other icons of fright-films past back on screen.

Whannell recently told Scare magazine that he’d like to see a contemporary take on “Dracula” come to fruition.
