Jeremy Irons was locked in to play a role in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of “Watchmen” a few months ago. Today, news on who the veteran thesp is playing.
According to /Film, the “Justice League” actor is set to play none other than Ozymandias in Damon Lindelof’s small-screen offering.
Says the site, “We can now confirm that this aging and imperious lord is Adrian Veidt, the wealthy industrialist, genius, and former superhero (“Ozymandias”) who – spoilers for the Watchmen comic – faked an alien invasion and killed thousands of innocent people to prevent nuclear armageddon and unite mankind against a fictional enemy. On the page, he’s one of the most complex and nuanced “villains” in comic book history, a man whose “evil scheme” exists purely to achieve world peace, sacrificing much of New York City to make it happen. He’s left alive at the end of the original Watchmen, forced to live with his decisions and wonder if he did the right thing.”
Meanwhile, Jean Smart (“24”) has joined the cast of the series, playing an FBI agent investigating the murder, says TheWrap.
Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon also star on the series, due to launch 2019.
Apple reveal streaming service, new channels, app
Apple today announced Apple TV+, the outfit’s long-anticipated video subscription service
Apple today announced Apple TV+, the outfit’s long-anticipated video subscription service that will launch in the spring with original content and other goodies. What Apple didn’t reveal about their Apple TV+ service is how much it’ll cost and when exactly it’ll hit, but still..
“We’re honoured that the absolute best lineup of storytellers in the world — both in front of and behind the camera — are coming to Apple TV+,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “We’re thrilled to give viewers a sneak peek of Apple TV+ and cannot wait for them to tune in starting this spring. Apple TV+ will be home to some of the highest quality original storytelling that TV and movie lovers have seen yet.”
Additionally, Apple debuted the all-new Apple TV app and Apple TV channels coming in May 2019. The all-new Apple TV app brings together the different ways to discover and watch shows, movies, sports, news and more in one app across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, smart TVs and streaming devices. Users can subscribe to and watch new Apple TV channels — paying for only services they want, like HBO, SHOWTIME and Starz1 — all on demand, available on and offline, with incredible picture quality and sound; enjoy sports, news and network TV from cable and satellite providers as well as purchase or rent iTunes movies and TV shows all within the new, personalised Apple TV app.
Beginning in May, customers can subscribe to Apple TV channels à la carte and watch them in the Apple TV app, with no additional apps, accounts or passwords required. Apple TV channels include popular services such as HBO, Starz, SHOWTIME, CBS All Access, Smithsonian Channel, EPIX, Tastemade, Noggin and new services like MTV Hits1, with more to be added over time around the world.
The new Apple TV app personalises what viewers love to watch across their existing apps and services while developing a secure and comprehensive understanding of users’ viewing interests. The app will offer suggestions for shows and movies from over 150 streaming apps, including Amazon Prime and Hulu, as well as pay-TV services such as Canal+, Charter Spectrum, DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue. Optimum and Suddenlink from Altice will be added later this year.
Additionally, the Apple TV app will become the new home to the hundreds of thousands of movies and TV shows currently available for purchase or rent in the iTunes Store.
The Apple TV app will be available on Samsung smart TVs beginning this spring and on Amazon Fire TV, LG, Roku, Sony and VIZIO platforms in the future.

We nearly had a Josie and the Pussycats ‘Du Jour’ spin-off!
Actor Breckin Meyer says Netflix were offered their own boy band!
Actor Breckin Meyer, appearing at this past weekend’s “Clueless” reunion panel at C2E2, told attendees that he’d spoken to Netflix about a spin-off of 2001 comedy “Josie and the Pussycats”.
The actor confirmed that he, co-star Seth Green and the film’s directors, Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (also Meyer’s ex-wife), pitched the streamer a mockumentary that would’ve featured the fictional boy band ‘Du Jour’ from the movie.
You’ll recall, Meyer and Green played members of the pop group, alongside Donald Faison (also on the “Clueless” panel) and Alexander Martin.
“It was right when the Backstreet Boys were doing their big comeback – so we tried that, but it didn’t take” says Meyer, also an accomplished writer, whose credits include “Star Wars Detours”, “Robot Chicken” and “Men at Work”.
Can we please revisit the idea, Netflix!?
Fun casting for IG-88 in The Mandalorian
The upcoming live-action “Star Wars” series set to premiere on Disney Plus
“Thor Ragnarok” helmer Taika Waititi recently shot an episode of Disney Plus’s “The Mandalorian” – the live-action “Star Wars” TV series that will feature, among others, fan-fave Boba Fett – and now it’s being revealed he’s also playing a character in it.
Showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) has posted a behind-the-scenes pic on Instagram of the beloved filmmaker recording his voice for the part of bounty hunter IG-88. The droid character is best known for his appearance in “The Empire Strikes Back” but he didn’t speak in his brief moments on screen.
Waititi, you may recall, also voiced a part in “Thor Ragnarok” – that of amiable Kiwi rock-guy Korg.
“The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
