Jeremy Irons was locked in to play a role in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of “Watchmen” a few months ago. Today, news on who the veteran thesp is playing.

According to /Film, the “Justice League” actor is set to play none other than Ozymandias in Damon Lindelof’s small-screen offering.

Says the site, “We can now confirm that this aging and imperious lord is Adrian Veidt, the wealthy industrialist, genius, and former superhero (“Ozymandias”) who – spoilers for the Watchmen comic – faked an alien invasion and killed thousands of innocent people to prevent nuclear armageddon and unite mankind against a fictional enemy. On the page, he’s one of the most complex and nuanced “villains” in comic book history, a man whose “evil scheme” exists purely to achieve world peace, sacrificing much of New York City to make it happen. He’s left alive at the end of the original Watchmen, forced to live with his decisions and wonder if he did the right thing.”

Meanwhile, Jean Smart (“24”) has joined the cast of the series, playing an FBI agent investigating the murder, says TheWrap.

Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon also star on the series, due to launch 2019.

James Wan has joined the producing committee over on “The Magic Order”, a new Netflix series based on an original story by Mark Millar.

The “Aquaman” director will also direct the pilot for the series, which Lindsay Beer will server as writer/showrunner on.

Here’s the logline : Five families of magicians sworn to protect our world must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness – unless the darkness gets them first.

“The Magic Order” was created in-house at Netflix by Mark Millar and later turned into a comic-book, written by Millar and illustrated by the legendary Marvel artist Olivier Coipel, based on designs created by the team at Netflix. The first issue of this series was the highest-selling new comic-book launch in almost 20 years and the graphic novel, collecting the first six issues, has just reached stores.

Our friends at Geek Vibes Nation have the word on the ‘who is Yayha Abdul-Mateen II playing in Watchmen?’ question that’s been floated in the forums for a while.

According to the site, the HBO series has the “Aquaman” star playing none other than Dr. Manhattan!

For the unversed, Dr. Jonathan Osterman aka Doctor Manhattan is a nuclear physicist who in 1959 acquired superpowers after surviving being disintegrated in an Intrinsic Field Subtractor and reconstructing himself. Following his reanimation, he was immediately pressed into service by the United States government, who gave him the name Doctor Manhattan, after the Manhattan Project.

Billy Crudup played the part in Zack Snyder’s 2009 feature film version.

Interestingly enough, Abdul-Mateen’s character has been listed as ‘Cal Abraham’ thus far, suggesting he might be donning a fake name when we first meet him in the series.

Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Tim Blake Nelson, Don Johnson and Louis Gossett Jr are also part of the series, set to premiere in the fall.
