Is Steven Seagal’s long-proposed Under Siege 3 a reality?

The actor was said to be working on a script as recently as 2016

For the better part of a decade, “Under Siege” star Steven Seagal has been trying to get a third film in that series off the.

His idea, as some will recall via his 2014 interview with TBI, was to pit America against Russia in the next film.

“It seems like Russia has been Hollywood’s default bad guy forever. I sorta think the opposite. I think that America and Russia should be great allies and great friends. And can be. What I want to do is write a movie, which I’ve sorta already done, where Russian special forces and American special forces work together to combat terrorism.” Seagal told the site “I’m trying to do Under Siege 3, which is the plot that I told you. I’m trying to do some martial arts films in China. I have a lot of different scripts and ideas.”

In a latter interview with JoBlo, the “Marked for Death” and “Machete Kills” actor said: “I’d like to do [another] sequel to Under Siege. I’d like to do Under Siege 3 and everyone wants to see that. We’d love to do that. The reason why we didn’t do it for so many years was because there was a [feud] going on between Warner Bros and – there was a rights dispute I should say. But that’s been cleared up now so we could, in theory, make that.”

In 2016, Seagal tweeted that he was officially working on the script for the film. In addition to a new “Under Siege”, he was reprising his ‘Nico’ role for another Warner Bros sequel, “Above the Law”.

Today, Deadline reported that – in addition to a new “Lethal Weapon” featuring OG star Mel Gibson – HBO Max is developing a ‘reboot’ of the 1992 classic. No word on Seagal’s involvement only that Timo Tjahjanto and Umair Aleem will be directing and writing, respectively.

While Seagal isn’t the big box-office drawcard he was in the ’80s and ’90s, the year-old actor still has quite the fan community barracking on his every move. Would be a shame to leave the original Casey Ryback out of anything bearing the title “Under Siege”.

Guess we’ll see…
