Co-stars of “Australia”, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman will reunite for The Weinstein Company’s “Lion”. Dev Patel, of “The Newsroom”, is also onboard.
Empire says the film, which will be shopped at the upcoming AFM in Santa Monica, is without a director at the moment.
These are early days for the project, which has yet to secure a director, but it’s based on a real-life story chronicled in a Vanity Fair article. Patel will be a street kid from Calcutta who finds a new home with an Australian couple, played by Jackman and Kidman. Quite how the lion element fits in remains a mystery for now.
Jackman and Patel have also worked together before, on Neil Blomkamp’s forthcoming “Chappie”.
