James Cameron talks Avatar sequels

James Cameron plans to silence cynics with his upcoming “Avatar” sequel.

The Oscar Winning filmmaker, currently in New Zealand prepping the first of three sequels to “Avatar”, tells Empire Magazine that cinemagoers are going to be left open-jawed come 2016.

I can tell you one thing about them: They’re gonna be bitchin.’ You will sh*t yourself with your mouth wide open.

Despite contemplating filming the new movies in 60 FPS, Cameron’s going with 48.

My thinking at the time was that 60 [FPS] might be a better segue to the video market. I’ll be plugging into a system that’s a little more mature, so it makes sense for me to do 48 frames at this point.

The “Avatar” sequels see most of the cast from the original, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver, reprising their roles. Cameron wrote the upcoming trio of “Avatar” films with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silverman, and Shane Salerno.

I think we met for seven months and we whiteboarded out every scene in every film together..and I didn’t assign each writer which film they were going to work on until the last day. I knew if I assigned them their scripts ahead of time, they’d tune out every time we were talking about the other movie.

There’s more in the print issue of Empire from Cameron on “Avatar 2”.
