James Wan enters Mortal Kombat

Box-office friendly filmmaker James Wan (“The Conjuring”, “Fast & Furious 7”) is producing the long-gestating “Mortal Kombat” reboot for New Line and Broken Road, according to The Tracking Board.

The script, being penned by Mortal Kombat: Legacy writer Oren Uziel and The Expendables writer Dave Callaham, centers around a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as ‘Mortal Kombat’.

Might Johnny Cage be the lead character?

There have been two “Mortal Kombat” movies – “Mortal Kombat” and “Mortal Kombat : Annihilation” – as well as a short-lived TV series. A new film has been in the works for quite some time, with director Mink (“Into the Sun”) once attached to it. A popular webseries, from Kevin Tancharoen, breathed new life into the franchise when it hit the web a couple of years back.
