While it would seem the “Star Trek” movie universe is on hold, series staple John Cho (‘Sulu’) thinks the franchise will come off pause sometime soon.
Speaking at the recent Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society Awards about the reported cancellation of a new “Star Trek” film to be directed by S.J Clarkson’s – which would’ve united Chris Pine’s Jim Kirk with his father, George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth – Cho confirmed that the film isn’t happening at present, but expects that will change.
“To be honest, it is not happening right now as far as I know, but I just think it will happen. Somebody at some point, we’ll all get on the same page and we will do it…That’s my belief. Maybe I am being optimistic…To me, it is just a significant part of American popular culture. I just don’t see how it goes away forever.”
Due to budgetary issues, amidst the disappointing performance of the previous “Trek” film, Paramount decided to put a hold on all “Star Trek” films.
