John Lithgow, fresh from soiling his trousers in the well-received “Pet Sematary” redo, has signed for HBO’s “Perry Mason” reboot.
Lithgow isn’t Mason. No. Sadly.
Team Downey, who hatched the new take, are casting younger on this – they’ve “Americans” alum Matthew Rhys playing the lawyer made famous by Raymond Burr.
Award ceremony staple Lithgow will play “Elias Birchard “E.B.” Jonathan, a personal attorney at the nadir of his career and a semi-regular employer of private investigator Mason. A mentor and a father figure to Mason, E.B. is handed the kind of case he hasn’t seen in years: a high-profile parallel investigation to the LAPD involving a child kidnapping.”
The limited series is set in 1932 Los Angeles, which adds shine to its appeal.
