Joker origin movie targets two big names

The “Joker” origin flick is looking at strengthening its cast with Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy reportedly in talks to come aboard the flick, which stars Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role.

“Joker” is being directed by Todd Phillips, who wrote the script with Scott Silver. Plot details at this stage remain largely unknown but word is it’s set in Gotham City in the early 1980s.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, De Niro would play a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin. The Wrap reports that Conroy is in talks to play the Joker’s mother Penny.

As previously reported, Zazie Beetz is also in talks to join the cast as a single mother who catches the interest of the Joker prior to his transformation into a villain.
