Actor, sometime pharmacist (one for the “Superstore” fans there!) and filmmaker Josh Lawson (“Mortal Kombat”, “Long Story Short”) will play Jessica Watson’s father in a film based on Watson’s 2010 journey to become the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world.
Lawson and “True Blood” alum Anna Paquin play Watson’s parents, Julie and Roger Watson in “True Spirit”, which Sarah Spillane will helm, having attempted to get the film before the cameras for several years now. “Live Free or Die Hard” actor Cliff Curtis is set to portray Watson’s coach Ben Bryant.
“True Spirit”, directed by Sarah Spillane, will shoot in Queensland and Sydney, reports IF.
Written by Spillane, with revisions by Rebecca Banner, Watson will be a consultant on “True Spirit”.
Lawson is coming off a bonza few months, with the staggering success of the “Mortal Kombat” reboot over at WB, and the international release of his well-received rom-com “Long Story Short”.
