Joy Luck Club sequel a go; Freaky Friday 2 being floated

Jamie Lee Curtis has spoken to Disney about the latter

30 years after its release, The Joy Luck Club is set to spawn a sequel courtesy author Amy Tan and Oscar-winning screenwriter Ron Bass.

The OG ensemble, including Ming Na-Weng, Tamlyn Tomita, Rosalind Chao, and Lisa Lu, are expected to reprise their roles from the original – now, naturally, playing mothers and grandmothers.

Says Deadline, ”in the sequel, the mothers become grandmothers and the daughters become mothers in their own right, introducing a new generation exploring their own relationships with culture, heritage, love, womanhood and identity.”

Wayne Wang directed the 1993 film.

Meanwhile, Halloween Ends star Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed that she’s spoken to Disney about a possible Freaky Friday sequel.

“I’ve already written to Disney [about a Freaky Friday sequel],” the veteran actress told ABC’s The View. “I’m 64 years old today — not today, soon, in a month or whatever. My point is I’m wide open, creatively I am wide open,” she added.

Said an enthused Curtis, “Lindsay Lohan and me back. She just made a Christmas movie, I believe, and she got married … It’s all good. Bring it! Let me be the grandma, let me be the old grandma who switches places, so then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon,” she continued.

She added, “I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world.”
