Julia Roberts joins the Smurfs movie!

A new female Smurf is coming to the Lost Village (doubling the town’s population of women..?) with Julia Roberts added to the cast of “Smurfs: The Lost Village” to voice a wise new character called SmurfWillow.

“Smurfs are such a fun part of our animated culture,” Roberts told PEOPLE. “They were popular when I was a child and they were popular when my kids were little. It’s fun to be part of such a sweet group that continues to entertain young people.”

Roberts joins a cast which includes Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Rainn Wilson as evil wizard Gargamel, Joe Manganiello as Hefty Smurf, Jack McBrayer as Brainy Smurf, and Danny Pudi as Clumsy Smurf.

Directed by Kelly Asbury, “Smurfs: The Lost Village” will hit cinemas on April 7, 2017.

It seems to Smurfette that everyone else in the Village has a purpose – Papa Smurf (leading), Baker Smurf (baking), even Grouchy Smurf (grouching) – except for her.  So what’s the only girl in the village to do?  Go in search of hers, of course!  When she accidentally crosses paths with a mysterious creature that takes off into the Enchanted Forest, she follows, and sets off into the uncharted and strictly forbidden woods.  Joined by her brothers Brainy, Hefty and Clumsy – and with the evil wizard Gargamel shadowing their every step – Team Smurf undertakes a wild journey full of action, danger and discovery, setting them on a course that leads to the biggest mystery in Smurf history!
