Jungle Cruise nicks the director from Suicide Squad 2

The movie based on the Disneyland ride “Jungle Cruise” has obtained a director, with Jaume Collet-Serra stepping up for the job. Collet-Serra was said to be the top choice to helm “Suicide Squad 2”, but seems he’s opted for the Disney movie instead, which has Dwayne Johnson as the star.

Collet-Serra’s last directorial effort was the successful film “The Shallows” with Blake Lively, and with his new role he’s clearly getting bigger and better things as time goes on. “Jungle Cruise” is likely to become a franchise, so it’s a good choice by the director. “Jungle Cruise” has producers John Davis and John Fox attached to the project, alongside Beau Flynn, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia (via Deadline).

Thus far, plot details for “Jungle Cruise” remain under wraps, but for context the ride takes visitors on a guided tour through the rivers of the world. Production is set for early-2018.

Of course this means that “Suicide Squad 2” remains director-less, with David Ayer not returning to the sequel. The search continues!
