Keanu Reeves on returning for The Matrix 4

As rumors continue to circulate that Keanu Reeves is playing a brand-new character in “The Matrix 4” – which would make sense considering Neo bit the big one at the end of the previous film – the 55-year-old actor has spoken about what appealed to him about returning to the franchise.

In a new interview with Empire, Reeves explained why he answered the call to enter ‘The Matrix’ one more time :

“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”

The actor, who next appears in the third “Bill & Ted” film, has high praise for the script.

“I never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all. When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting.”

“The Matrix 4” was set to open May 21, 2021 – – but that was before the pandemic halted production so expect it to open a wee bit later.
