Leatherface victim on a Star Trek?

“Texas Chainsaw” star frontrunner for Kirk

J.J Abrams might have found his new – the old one’s broke, ya see? – Captain Kirk.

Wearing the Shatner Mask for the new “Star Trek” prequel, according to IESB, will be Mike Vogel. The “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” star is apparently a comm confirmation from being beamed up!

The 28-year-old actor, who also appears in “Poseidon” and “Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants”, has apparently been director Abrams’ first choice for a while now (contrary to reports that Matt Damon was the guy).

J.J (‘Just Jugs’ as he’s affectionately known around the tittie bars) met Vogel on the set of “Cloverfield” – or whatever the heck it’s called – the giant monster movie he’s producing for Paramount. Vogel plays one of the guys, ah, running from giant, er, monsters. So this shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

Though IESB hasn’t been able to get a definite ‘yes’ from Vogel’s reps or the studio, they’re confident that it’ll be his mug up there on the big screen sitting in the Captain’s chair come 2008.

So whatcha think? Is this guy Kirk? I’m not fussed either way, I think it’s going to be hard enough to get an audience to believe in a new Kirk, since we know Bill Shatner so fondly for the role, so it don’t much matter who’s playing young Jimmy. Then again, I suppose if the guy is a good actor it’ll help with the ruse. And it doesn’t hurt that Abrams’ is the one pushing the buttons. Still, jury’s out til film’s out.

A confirmation should be coming any day now. Assumingly.
