Logan helmer boards Boba Fett movie

Is Boba's offspring in the film?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Logan” helmer James Mangold will write and direct the long-gestating “Star Wars” spin-off focusing on beloved bounter hunter Boba Fett.

Lucasfilm have long planned to do a stand-alone film based on the henchman who successfully captures Han Solo in “Empire Strikes Back” and returned – albeit briefly -for “Return of the Jedi”. A younger version of the character appeared in George Lucas’s “Star Wars” prequels.

Mangold, who will next direct Fox’s Ford vs. Ferrari movie, is teaming with producer Simon Kinberg (“Dark Phoenix”) on the project. In addition to producing, Kinberg wll also co-write the script for the film.

In 2014, Josh Trank was briefly attached to direct a Boba Fett movie but made a personal decision about twelve months later to leave the “Star Wars” universe.

Meanwhile, the trade confirms recent reports that an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, to be directed by Stephen Daldry and featuring Ewan McGregor in the dusty robes, is officially in development with Disney. That project is yet to hire writers though, so Bobba Fett might make it to the starting line first.

The latest standalone “Star Wars” movie, “Solo : A Star Wars Story”, opens this weekend across most of the globe.
