Looking at the rumored contenders for Reed Richards in Fantastic Four

The director of the 2025 film says it’s “early in our process” so let’s not jump the gun but…

While nothing official has been announced, it’s likely that Marvel Studios and director Matt Shakman does have their eye on particular actors for parts in the upcoming Fantastic Four. Sure, the WandaVision director is busy with the new Godzilla film, as he tells Collider in the interview below, but casting discussions would have taken place – if even over zoom and if even intermittently.

“You know, I’m still finishing up the Godzilla. We’re in post on that, and have a few more months on that. [Then] Fantastic Four is pretty much my life until Valentine’s Day of 2025. All the casting stuff you see is just rumours. We are early in our process there. We have nothing to announce right now, and certainly, when we do we’ll let you know.”

There are a few strongly rumoured contenders for the role of the poppa in Marvel’s first family, though. Let’s take a look at a few of them :

DEV PATEL
The Slumdog Millionaire actor’s name has been linked to this role, by several oft-reputable insiders, for weeks now. No idea if there’s any juice to the whisper but the versatile actor does fit the part, right!? [More on this rumor here…]

ADAM DRIVER
The always in-demand Star Wars and Marriage Story actor has also been heavily associated with those casting rumours. One wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Driver is also someone they’re considering for the role of Doctor Doom too, though. [More on this rumor here…]

JOHN KRASINSKI
Krasinski played Reed in last year’s Doctor Strange sequel but, according to the man himself, and the powers that be, it’s unlikely we’ll see the same actor ported over to Fantastic Four. [More on this rumor here…]

JOSH JACKSON
The Fringe and Doctor Death actor is a new name that’s come up a couple of times now. He definitely has the chops, the beard, and is of the right-ish age, but would he be too busy with his TV commitments to even consider such a gig? [More on this rumor here…]

PENN BAGLEY
Penn Badgley, of You fame, was one of the earliest linked to the role. The 35-year-old has proven his versatility in recent years so no surprise if this one has some truth to it. [More on this rumor here...]
