Lord of the Rings series shuts down due to Coronavirus

Filming has paused on Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” series for two weeks.

A memorandum sent to about 800 cast and crew involved in the West Auckland shoot, sent shortly after 7pm this evening, blamed the Covid-19 coronavirus for the disruption, reports The New Zealand Herald.

The note to the employed said : “In an abundance of caution, UAP [Untitled Amazon Project] has suspended production for the next two (2) weeks commencing Monday, March 16. This is done in an environment where travel restrictions directed at the control of Covid-19 are issued daily by New Zealand and most other countries.”

A new prequel series set in The Second Age, thousands of years before the events of ”The Lord of the Rings” and ”The Hobbit”, the new series stars Maxim Baldry, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark and more.
