“Mad Max : Furiosa”, a prequel to George Miller’s 2015 hit “Fury Road”, will lens in New South Wales from June.
Again directed by Miller, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the film will shoot in western Sydney and regional parts of the state, including near Broken Hill and Hay.
“This has always been our home, Sydney and NSW, and we have shot so much here,” Miller said in a press conference earlier today. “It means we are keeping the really brilliant talent here who previously went overseas.”
Hemsworth, whose role is being kept under wraps, said he feels a “lot of pressure” doing the film, having grown up with the iconic film series.
“It’s something I’m going to put my heart and soul into because it really is for me, out of everything I’ve done, the biggest pinch-myself moment because I’ve grown up watching it.”
Miller described the new film as a saga.
“Whereas Fury Road essentially happened over three days and two nights, this happens over many years,” he said. ”You try to make films that are ‘uniquely familiar’.
“This will be familiar to those people who know Mad Max, and in particular Fury Road, but also it will be unique.”
“Furiosa” will shoot next year once Miller finishes post-production on his latest film “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”
A release date of June 23, 2023 was also revealed for the film.
