Marvel’s Shangi-Chi coming to the big screen!

Marvel Studios is fast-tracking its first Asian superhero franchise.

“Shang-Chi”, based on a character that debuted in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, hatched by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin, will be penned by “Wonder Woman 1984” co-scribe Dave Callaham.

According to Deadline, who have the scoop on the project, Marvel is already looking at a number of Asian and Asian-American directors who want to do something as potentially monumental as was accomplished in Marvel’s first viable Best Picture candidate, ”Black Panther”.

Shang-Chi, says Wikipedia, is “an extraordinary master of numerous unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles, including the use of the gun, nunchaku and jian. He later, upon joining the Avengers, ultimately gains the power to create countless duplicates of himself.”

Marvel’s next is Brie Larson-led “Captain Marvel”, the trailer of which is due to premiere tonight.
