Matt Smith out of Star Wars?

It was widely reported last year that former “Doctor Who” actor Matt Smith had secured an undisclosed role in Disney and Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker”. While it’s assumed the actor did indeed shoot in a galaxy far, far away… a new report suggests his scenes might have been cut from the December release.

According to The Playlist, Smith – whose other bigscreen credits include “Terminator : Genisys” and “Charlie Says” – has had his name removed from the credit block of the sequel. Is he now off the film? did his scenes not make the cut? Or is there something more at play?

Sure, it’s possible that Disney want to keep his appearance – and character –  a secret and have purposely removed him from the cast listing, just as they have Dominic Monaghan – who has a role in the flick – but by all accounts and purposes, until we hear otherwise, Smith isn’t in the movie.

A rumor a while back suggested that Smith was going to be playing an incarnation of Emperor Palpatine, the character played by Ian McDiarmid in the original films. Might that have been the case? Smith was attached to play the part… until Mc Diarmid himself agreed to come back?

“Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker” opens December 20.
