For the second time in recent years, 20th Century Fox is developing a spin-off of the now defunct “How I Met Your Mother”.

Like the previous attempt, an abandoned idea titled “How I Met Your Dad” (and starring Greta Gerwig), the new show will again focus on a young woman retelling the tale of how she met the father of her children. To separate the show from the previous attempt, this one’s going by the name of “How I Met Your Father”.

Besides the structure, there’s not due to be any link between the new show and it’s predecessor, “How I Met Your Mother”. As such, CBS – who aired “Mother” – doesn’t necessarily get first dibs on the new show; it could go anywhere.

Deadline says ”This Is Us” co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are writing the project, which retains a lot of the creative staff from “How I Met Your Mother”.

Early days yet.
