Michael, Sam & the Lost Boys come to TV!

People are even stranger than they were when Michael realized curls get the calls, so no surprise to hear that The CW has jumped at the chance to exploit Warner’s long-yielding “Lost Boys” franchise by bringing it to TV.

Umpteen years after the direct-to-video sequels to the 1987 classic briefly breathed new life into the brand, The CW has picked up a pilot set in the world of Joel Schumacher’s classic rock n’ roll vampire flick. Now the network had considered doing something with the film a couple of years ago but ultimately changed their mind – probably had no money left after bankrolling the “Arrow” and “Flash” pilots.

Anywho, the series, to be executive produced by “Veronica Mars” and “iZombie” head-honcho Rob Thomas, and written by Heather Mitchell, will retell the story of the original film – with a couple of fresh faces playing Michael and Sam Emerson.

Here’s the official logline from WBTV : Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

With The CW involved, it wouldn’t be out of the question to assume the series might be more akin to “The Vampire Diaries” or “The Originals” but at the same time, with Rob Thomas involved we might be in for a surprise – imagine ‘Veronica Mars’ with vamps! That could work!

In addition to “The Lost Boys”, The CW has also greenlit a pilot for a new “Nancy Drew” series, a second “Riverdale” spin-off (centering on Katy Keene) and a “Jane the Virgin” spin-off.
