We suggest they will be involved yet despite the odd rumble it’s still not known whether Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will definitely reprise their bewitching Sanderson sister roles for the recently-announced “Hocus Pocus” follow-up.
“Cheaper by the Dozen” and “High School Musical” helmer Adam Shankman will direct the new film. No set date on when cameras will roll on the thing but apparently its scripted and on Disney’s dance card.
Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler have expressed interest in reuniting with their brooms but Shankman, nor Disney, have yet to comment on the possibility.
Some good news though fans…
A couple of days back, Midler told Fox 5 that the three of them have all agreed to cackle again!
“They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes,” said Midler. “I’m game, I’m totally game.”
Speaking to Variety earlier this year, “Hocus Pocus” director Kenny Ortega suggested a “Hocus Pocus” follow-up wouldn’t be the same without the original Sanderson gals.
“I would hope that a sequel would involve the three women in some major capacity,” he told the trade.
Ortega said it puts a “big ‘ol smile’ on his face to see “Hocus Pocus” become “a cult film and now finally get an opportunity, perhaps with the original actresses, to happen again, I think it’s all exceptional.”
“It wouldn’t be happening if the original works didn’t impact an audience to come back at it again,” Ortega added. “I’m very pleased.”
Funnily enough, Disney didn’t feel the same way about the stars of the original “Three Men and a Baby” movies – not inviting Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson to reprise their roles for the recently announced Disney+ reboot.
Tonight, Midler and her co-stars got back into their garb for a mockumentary titled “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover”, in which several name guests and original “Hocus Pocus” co-stars (like Vinessa Shaw) also popped by. The one-night only, $10-a-pop event will pass on all proceeds to the New York Restoration Project, an organization Midler founded in 1995 to clean and restore green spaces in New York City.
Next, sequel? Sounds like it!
The “Hocus Pocus” sequel will be penned by Jen A’Dangelo and produced by Lynn Harris.
