“Smurfs” star Hank Azaria is joining Liev Schreiber on the second series of the acclaimed Showtime drama “Ray Donovan”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Azaria, a regular on TVs “The Simpsons”, has boarded the show for a “major arc”, says the trade.
Azaria will recur and play James Cochran, head of the L.A. division of the FBI. The character, on track to become the national director, becomes entangled with Ray (Schreiber) in a conspiracy about the death of Sully Sullivan (James Woods). James is described as a worthy adversary for Ray, with each trying to control the other. Wily and vain, he enjoys holding power over others and is a surprisingly good musician who plays in a cover band with other agents, though he has some other arcane interests that may be his downfall.
“Ray Donovan” sees Azaria return to Showtime, where he headlined “Huff” for two seasons.
